DefenCall Announces Smartphone Personal Duress Button App for Hospitals and Healthcare Campuses
DefenCall Healthcare Personal Duress System turns smartphones into flexible and cost effective personal emergency alerting devices
June 25, 2013 – New Canaan, CT – Defentect Group, Inc. (OTC Pink: DFTC) a leading intelligent threat awareness firm, through its subsidiary DefenCall, Inc., today announced the release of DefenCall Healthcare, a smartphone-based personal duress app designed for use at hospitals and health campuses. The Company has also published a “Guide to Smartphone Personal Duress Apps for Hospitals and Health Campuses” white paper.
The DefenCallHealthcare app introduces a new level of protection to healthcare facility workers and volunteers by providing a personal duress button on their smartphones to enhance their ability to “call for help” in an urgent situation. Defencall Healthcare also provides immediate access to customized safety information and procedures for users to follow in an emergency.
DefenCall Healthcare can enhance duress communication for community members:
- Workers and volunteers within main hospital buildings/campuses
- Workers and volunteers at satellite facilities such as outpatient clinics, labs, or counseling centers
- Visiting healthcare workers on client visits
- Students in teaching systems
The DefenCall Healthcare smartphone personal duress app provides a “duress button” on community members’ smartphones that can be used to “call for help” in an emergency. Activating the button immediately dials the facility security (or local emergency) number and sends a text message and/or email to a list of pre-defined contacts which can be configured to include security officers, administrators, and other staff members. The alert message includes the name of the person who is requesting help, their phone number, and their actual location as determined by GPS. Activating the button also causes an emergency alert message to be displayed on the DefenCall web dashboard which can be monitored by security personnel.
“Protecting workers, volunteers, and other community members is becoming the number one challenge for healthcare safety professionals,” said James C. Ackerly, CEO of DefenCall. “DefenCall Healthcare empowers healthcare facilitates to leverage the smartphones that community members already have to significantly enhance urgent communications and community member security.”
The DefenCall Healthcare app also provides emergency information with specific procedures to follow in a variety of situations. This information is customized to include the facility’s own emergency protocols and can be augmented with FEMA information on a wide variety of emergencies. Examples of “what to do in an emergency” information include armed intruder protection, tornado procedures, power outage, and protocols for other serious incidents.
DefenCall Healthcare also offers a number of additional capabilities including “one-button” non-emergency alert text messages to administrators or colleagues and a “check-in” feature for remote and visiting workers.
